INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MODERN CHINESE ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY
BEJING CHINA, 2010

ANNOUNCEMENT OF CALL FOR PAPERS

In order to promote the research of modern Chinese architectural history, with the joint efforts of School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo, Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage, and Commission of Specialty of Chinese Modern Architectural History of The Architectural Society of China, International Conference on Modern History of Chinese Architecture, 2010 (the twelfth biennial conference of its kind) is to be held at Tsinghua University in Beijing in late July, 2010, and is now inviting paper abstracts for the convention.

I. The theme of this conference will be “Research on Modern Chinese Architectural History and Preservation”.  Papers for the conference should be related to the following major topics:
① Research on the history and theories of modern architecture;
② Research on Chinese and foreign architects;
③ Relations between the study of modern and traditional architectural history and architectural practice;
④ Modern architecture and cultural heritages;
⑤ Survey and study of modern industrial architecture and legacies;
⑥ Theory and practice of the preservation of modern architecture;
⑦ Current situations of the preservation of modern architecture and its prospect;
⑧ Problems and solutions of modern architecture in the onslaught of modernization and globalization.

II. The author can also decide the titles of papers.  Papers submitted to the conference should be unpublished, original research that either relates to Chinese modern architectural history (1840-1949), or lays an emphasis on the cultural communication between China and other countries during that time. 
The paper to be submitted should be in Chinese.  There is no limit for words contained in the papers.  Formal papers should include the following 8 parts in order: Title, Name and affiliation of the author, Abstract, Key words, Main texts, Annotations, References, Content of illustrations. 
Regarding to “Title”, “Name and working department of the author” and “Abstract”, English translation should be attached correspondingly.  In the meantime, please also attach a copy of author’s brief resume.
Both texts and illustrations should be sent through E-mail, and texts should be sent separately from illustrations.  Illustrations should be saved as the format of jpg, with the size no smaller than 1600×1200 and the resolution no less than 360dpi.

III. Deadline for the submission of FULL papers: December 31, 2009.

IV. After the review of all papers submitted, the announcement of selected papers for the conference will be sent to authors by March 31, 2010.

V. The Committee for the Preparations of the Conference will send formal invitation letters to the authors of the papers selected for the conference by May 31, 2008.  The date of the conference schedule will be announced in the formal invitation.

VI. After scrutinizing, selected papers submitted will be collected at THE STUDY AND PRESERVATION ON MODERN CHINESE ARCHITECTURE (The Anthology of 20108 Conference on Modern History of Chinese Architecture, Vol. VII) which will be formally published by Tsinghua University Press before the opening of the conference.

VII. The conference committee will organize field trip on modern architecture in Beijing during conference sessions.
